Real Simple has announced the topic of their next essay contest!
"What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
Maybe, in the course of your life, you’ve had an Erin Brockovich [an unfortunate choice of words, considering her recent arrest for "drunk boating"] moment: say, the time you stood up to a bully in second grade, or the day you ended a long-standing friendship that had turned toxic. Or maybe your acts of courage have been less dramatic but no less powerful: moving to a new country. Daring to fall in love a second time around. Leaving a settled career to embark on a risky new venture. Whatever your story, share it with us."

I noticed this year they didn't include the trip to New York to meet the editors. I hope I wasn't the one who kicked the last nail in on that one (I had a wonderful time - super impressive, accomplished women who were incredibly friendly but I'm sure it's a big deal to take a few hours out of their day). I do feel a little sad for next year's winner that they won't have that very memorable experience. But hey, $3,000 is pretty sweet.
Sitting down and writing my essay was the best thing I did in all of 2012. I encourage you to submit your own story. I'm proof that anyone can win.
Good luck!!!
